EFFORTS???
By partnering with Whole Planet Foundation, we are able to make a
very specific impact by providing resources to Fonkoze, a microlending program
in Haiti that serves more than 55,000 women borrowers and more than 1 million
families. Money raised so far through Whole Planet Foundation has enabled
Fonkoze to rebuild critical infrastructure needed to open bank branches to
provide much-needed loans to members who need to re-establish their businesses.
The progress so far has been great, but there is so much left to do and we need
all the support we can get!

The GAME CHANGERS FOR HAITI initiative is an effort spearheaded by entrepreneurs Erin Vanderveldt and Ingrid Vanderveldt (The Vanderveldt Sisters Foundation) who have teamed up with Whole Planet Foundation (Whole Foods Market Foundation) and Fonkoze - a micro lending organization for Haiti.

NPR ran a great story this morning about Yvrose, a Haitian woman who operates a tiny wholesale business selling chicken necks and other odds and ends to her even poorer neighbors. It turns out that this one-woman microbusiness is far more financially sophisticated than it might appear. She borrows money from local lenders, understands interest rates, rotating capital and maintains long-term relationships with lots of different market players.
Unfortunately, she made her weekly deliveries of goods the day of the earthquake and now many of her customers are dead and gone, so she now has to sell direct to customers walking around the tent cities in order to try and make her minimum payment due on her loan.
